The road to a sustainable future

Abeinsa, the highest sales

Abeinsa, the subsidiary in charge of electrical and energy infrastructure construction and engineering activities, is the leading division of the Abengoa group in terms of revenues, with annual sales of €2.576 billion. The company constructs and operates industrial conventional energy and renewable energy plants, as well as manages telecommunications projects and networks.

Despite the crisis, Abeinsa’s business has continued to grow, and it benefits from an extensive portfolio of projects worth €6.311 billion. Abeinsa’s activities include designing and constructing renewable energy electricity plants, constructing biofuel centers, and operating electricity lines that help to reducing energy consumption.

Greater investment in renewables

Despite the difficult global economic situation, countries are increasingly investing in alternative energy, and Abengoa continues to develop its activities in bioenergy, recycling, and waste management. In addition, the desalination market is expected to grow due to population increases, along with decreasing acess to water resources.

“The company’s forecasts continue to be strong, and the future is full of challenges and opportunities for growth,” says Benjumea. “The sector has the capacity to lead the economic recovery and to contribute to solving problems that arise from the depletion of fossil fuels and climate change.”

As part of the company’s expansion in the biofuels sector, Abengoa recently constructed a plant in Cádiz, in southern Spain, that annually produces 225 million liters of biodiesel. It also intends to expand its network of biofuel service stations in Spain and Germany, with more than 20 stations in each country. Abengoa has opened offices in Sao Paolo, Brazil and will construct three more biofuel plants in the U.S. in Indiana, Illinois, and Kansas.

In 2009, Abengoa recorded sales of €4.147 billion, employing 24,000 people in 70 countries.
