Additional Ascamm projects in nanotechnology.
Co-Nanomet is a collaboration project between technology centers, universities and industries in nine European countries to develop a common scenario in the area of nanometrology, the field of measurement techniques and standards at the nanoscale. Ascamm will lead training in this project, which seeks to define a European strategy, coordinate the education of scientists, engineers and end users in the field of nanometrology, and create a central core for coordinating nanometrology activities throughout Europe.
Nanoradmap is part of an initiative in the Latin American Science and Technology Program for Development, and includes centers in Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and Spain. Its objective is to create a network of experts in nanotechnology in the fields of healthcare, energy and the environment in order to establish a roadmap for research in these areas in the coming years.
Aplicanano, part of the National Plan for Scientific Research, Development and Technology Innovation, focuses on improving the mechanical properties, wear, and self-cleaning of plastics, through the addition of nanoparticles.
These projects are backed by economic investments on the part of Ascamm. According to the company, the strategic plan through 2011 includes a €40 million investment in R&D, the largest amount for that purpose set aside by the center since its creation in 1987.
